So many people to thank for another successful Withernsea AFC tournament weekend

Last weekend saw Withernsea AFC invite more than 140 teams and a further 3,000 visitors to Hull Road Playing Fields for our 16th annual tournament.

The weather could not have been better and we enjoyed our two days in the sun watching hundreds of boys and girls playing football.

Preparation for the tournament begins in October each year and the committee would like to thank the following people for making our tournament such a big success, safeguarding the club’s future for another year.

For all their help ensuring the field is presentable we would like to thank Craig Leckonby, Andy Wilkin and Tony Grasby. We would like to thank the two schools for all the help with parking and allowing us the use of the primary school field for the older age groups. Also the caretakers for their continued support.

To all our coaches, volunteers and helpers, too many to name, but a big thank you to Street Games and all the parents and friends of the club.

A big thank you to First Aid Box for providing our first aid on the day, to Timy’s Ice Creams for continuing to support all of our events, the Methodist Church for loaning some cones to ensure the parking had less of an impact on residents this year, the town council for its continued support in our quest to improve, to Steve Spruce for his invaluable help with the referees, to Tesco and Heron Foods for your much-appreciated support and to Caron Windas Durkin for organising the food – but mostly to the residents for their patience with traffic and the small disruptions.

The tournament committee gives up so much time and a special mention must go to Andy Beedham, Mark Windas, Sofe McBride, Amy Eades, Phil Moore, Emma Stead, Matt Hoe and Howard Gant.
