An animal sanctuary in Hedon is fundraising to adopt a new friend for its reindeer after the death of its “beloved” companion last month.
On September 11, Klaus, a reindeer at Little Haven Farm, died after a short illness, leaving staff and fellow reindeer Sven “devastated”. The pair had been a popular attraction at the Havenside farm.
A spokeswoman said: “Although Sven is doing OK now, reindeer are herd animals and should not be kept on their own.
“As many of you are aware, we currently do not receive outside funding, and we are a not-for-profit organisation. Reindeer are expensive to buy but we really want to get Sven a friend as soon as possible.”
Little Haven Farm is urging people to donate, and says that those who contribute more than £35 will receive an annual pass to the attraction in return.
These will entitle one person general admission valid for 12 months and their name on the enclosure plaque.
