East Riding Council has announced a significant investment at East Riding Leisure South Holderness in Preston.
Some improvements have already been carried out, and now there are plans to go still further.
For the first time, the swimming pool is now open and available for public swimming from noon daily, plus aqua fit classes on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
The Tone Zone gym has also been refurbished, offering updated equipment including treadmills, diverging lat pulldown, leg press, hip adduction and abduction, and leg extension leg curl.
Plans are now in place to extend the size of the gym, making the floor space three times larger, and add new flooring and redecorate. The latest matrix equipment will be installed, and air conditioning will be introduced. It is hoped that this work will start within the next few months.
In addition, it has now been agreed to refurbish the changing rooms, general areas, and the meeting room, which will be made available to hire for parties at weekends. It is hoped that this work can be carried out before April 2024.
The work would include a new reception area, new meeting room with presentation equipment, new flooring throughout, new cubicles in both the wetside and dryside, and a new toilet and sink in both the wetside and dryside areas.
Councillor Nick Coultish, portfolio holder for culture, leisure and tourism, said: “This programme of planned investment at East Riding Leisure South Holderness is great news for the community, and will represent significant improvements to the facilities we can offer local residents and East Riding Leisure members.
“It’s very pleasing that we can make this investment, even in these difficult times, and this shows our commitment to the health and wellbeing of our residents in South Holderness. This will ensure the future of this popular facility.”
