Lifeboat’s first ‘lights night’ hailed success

Hornsea Inshore Rescue hosted its first-ever Christmas Lights Party on Friday, December 13, delighting families with an evening of festive cheer while raising awareness for the charity’s lifesaving work.

The free event, held at the lifeboat station, brought the community together with a packed programme of activities. Visitors enjoyed meeting Santa Claus, who handed out official Nice List certificates, festive foam fun provided by Blip Active, Christmas crafts with the elves, and music from the Hornsea Shanty Lasses and singer Rebecca Ivy. A decorated tractor and lights display in the courtyard added extra sparkle.

Sue Hickson-Marsay MBE, CEO and station manager of Hornsea Inshore Rescue, said: “It was wonderful – for our first-ever Christmas Lights Party, it went down a treat. Father Christmas had over 100 children visit him!

“We made around £600, which is fantastic considering it was a free event. The support from the public was wonderful, and the weather was incredibly kind. We will be back next year, and hopefully, it will be bigger and better.”

The event also marked the launch of a public appeal for a new project at Hornsea’s boat launch. Plans are under way to transform the rooftop into a community café and hub, with profits supporting the lifeboat’s lifesaving efforts.
