Hobbies exhibition attracts plenty of visitors

An event held in Withernsea last Saturday demonstrated that there is plenty going on in the town.

Withernsea Hobby Expo, organised by Withernsea Town Council at the Meridian Centre, gave the opportunity for visitors to meet groups and individuals who wanted to share their hobbies or interests and also meet organisations that offer the chance to join them in making the town and area a better place.

At the last count more than 100 groups and organisations are listed in the town, providing opportunities for residents and visitors to take part in new hobbies or to give some of their time in helping people in the area.

Just some of those took part in the exhibition, including Active Withernsea, The Royal British Legion, Withernsea and District Lions Club, Raynet, Picture This, Withernsea Carnival, Withernsea Book Club, Withernsea Growing Together, Studio Victoriana, Withernsea Mermaids, Withernsea Family History, the Jubilee Celebration Group, Withernsea Health Walkers, Friends of Withernsea Lighthouse and library, East Riding Council, and games and Cuppa and Chorus Groups.

A spokesman from Withernsea Town Council said: “Withernsea Town Council would like to thank everyone who attended the second Hobby Expo at the Meridian Centre on Saturday, May 14.

“Our local groups and organisations did the town proud, and the event saw approximately 400 people come through the doors. It was beautiful to see those who attended the first Hobby Expo return and see new faces on Saturday. The town council hopes that this event will become a regular showcase, demonstrating just how much is offered here in Withernsea. Many took the opportunity to visit the Expo, with the town attracting visitors from as far as Manchester, Barnsley, and Durham.

“The Mayor’s Charities for the forthcoming year, Royal British Legion and Withernsea Lighthouse benefited from the first fundraising activity of the year, reaping £37.50 from cake sales on the day.”

The response was very encouraging, and the town council plans to hold another exhibition, provisionally set for Saturday, May 13, 2023, and will be inviting all groups and individuals to take part, especially hobby groups who collect, make models, run, cycle or play tennis.
