Hedon Flower Festival is being staged at St Augustine’s Church at the weekend, with organisers promising that a blaze of floral colours will greet visitors.
There are also four open gardens in Hedon over the weekend of Saturday, July 9 (10.30am to 4pm) and Sunday, July 10 (noon to 4pm).
To visit the church only is £2.50, and to include the open gardens in your visit will cost £4. The church will benefit from the entry fees, as will the mayor’s chosen charity Emmaus Hull and East Riding.
The displays of flowers will be auctioned at the end of the festival on Sunday. The auction will be promoted in the church during the festival, with forms and envelopes for sealed bids.
In addition to the floral arrangements, local schoolchildren have also created some miniature gardens which will also be on display at the church.
Councillor Di Storr, chairman of Hedon Town Council’s events working group, passed on her thanks to local traders for sponsoring the flower festival and to Sandhills Garden Centre in Preston for subsidising the flowers. She thanked the owners of the gardens for opening them up for the duration of the festival.
