The Culture Train – a touring project that brings live music to venues across East Yorkshire – will visit Kilnsea later this month, with a free evening of entertainment at the Crown and Anchor.
Now in its eighth year, the initiative began as part of the 2017 City of Culture programme and has continued with support from the East Riding of Yorkshire Active Creative Fund. Past performances have taken place at a range of locations, including St Augustine’s Church in Hedon, Bridlington Priory and the Haven Arms stage at Hedfest.
The Kilnsea event, from 7.30pm on Saturday, June 21, will feature a line-up of leading regional musicians, including Mike Cooling, Curtis and McLeod, Sharon Maher and the Cox Brothers.
Mike Cooling, a singer-songwriter from the Beverley area, is known for his original material. Local duo Curtis and McLeod play a mix of indie folk, Americana and well-known covers ranging from Eva Cassidy to Joni Mitchell.
Sharon Maher, originally from Northern Ireland and now based in East Yorkshire, draws inspiration from her roots. Her 2019 debut album Beauty on a Steel Drum included the track Ballintoy Harbour, and her more recent single White on Blue was played on BBC Introducing Radio Humberside.
The Cox Brothers – Hull-based John and Pete – perform semi-acoustic versions of John’s original songs, blending folk, jazz and pop with distinctive guitar work and vocals.
The gig is free to attend and is part of a wider 2025 Culture Train tour that also includes stops in Goole, South Dalton, Bridlington, Beeford and Beverley.
