Aldbrough Primary School has launched a fundraiser to raise money to upgrade its outdoor PE equipment.
In a bid to improve the outdoor sports facilities at the school, head of PE Devauna McFarlane has launched a £7,000 appeal for new football goalposts and basketball hoops.
Devauna says that football is a firm favourite at the school and is often played during PE lessons, break times and after school. However, after years of exposure to coastal weather, the current goalposts are no longer safe.
The school has sourced professional-grade, Premier League-approved goalposts from Net World Sports, built to last and costing nearly £2,300 with a generous discount.
It is also hoped basketball can be brought into greater focus, and the school has chosen Mega Slam in-ground adjustable basketball systems. These hoops are weather-resistant and built for long-term use. The total cost for two systems is £4,665, including all components and a lifetime warranty.
Devauna said: “I believe that every child deserves the chance to thrive through sport, to build confidence, stay active, and develop the vital life skills that team play fosters. Our current mission is to raise funds to upgrade our outdoor sports facilities by replacing our worn-out football goalposts and installing two high-quality basketball hoops on our playground. These additions will have a lasting impact on our pupils’ physical wellbeing and social development.
“As a small rural school, our budget is tight. We rely on the generosity of supporters to help bring these opportunities to life for our children. Donations, no matter the size, will help create an environment where pupils can learn, grow and play with the equipment they deserve.”
To help raise the money, the school will host a range of events. The first will be a family karaoke night at the school on Friday, July 4, from 6pm to 8pm. The event will feature singing, games, “guess the name of the teddy”, and prizes for the best acts.
Jamaican food, hot dogs and soft drinks will also be available to purchase. Ticket prices: adults £3, children £1, family ticket (two adults, up to three children) £7. Tickets can be purchased from the school office – speak to Mr McFarlane to get yours.
