All hands to the pump for our Jubilee special

I’M BACK! Did you miss me? On second thoughts, don’t answer that…

I enjoyed my “holiday” last week, which really was a staycation in the proper sense of the word, and it was the closest thing to time off I’ve had in some time. As I’ve said before, I haven’t been out of the country since just before the world went mad in 2020, and I’m not likely to again until at least next year.

My liver needs a bit of a break, really, as the week began with a wedding (not mine!) on the Monday. I headed to a music session in a Hull city centre pub on the Wednesday afternoon, which was much fun, and then I ended the week at the Hull and East Yorkshire Children’s University “The 20s Roar Again” charity ball at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Hull. For this I had my business magazine hat on – plus appropriately themed glad rags – and it was a brilliant night in aid of a great cause. Consequently all I did on the Saturday was sleep.

But there’s no rest for the wicked – there wasn’t much time to breathe before it was all hands to the pump to get this Jubilee special edition out, in which you’ll find a guide to the numerous events going on around our region. We’ve done our best to include as many as possible in the space we have available!

And as we head towards this special weekend, I’m going to make the usual plea – send us your photos! We’d love to see as many as possible from all corners of Holderness, and these will be published in another special edition the week after.

I recently sent a load of Gazette promotion flyers out to parish councils around our region, which I hope have been received OK, and it’d be great if these can be displayed on village hall noticeboards to remind people that we’re here to promote any news or events you may have.

If you belong to a community group and you’d like a batch of these flyers, please do let me know
and I’ll make sure you get some.

Also this week we have another special feature from Brian Lavery, which is a cracking story about the “model citizen of Green Island”. Turn to page 16 of this week’s edition to find out more…
