On Sunday, April 6, Roanna and I ran the iconic London Landmarks Half Marathon – a truly fabulous race and an amazing way to see and soak up our capital city!
We arrived in our wave at around 9.40am, ready to set off on what turned out to be a glorious, warm and sunny day.
The route was reversed this year, so we began our run on Whitehall and headed across Westminster Bridge, then along Embankment, taking in the views of many landmarks – the London Eye, the Shard and Tower of London to name a few.
The temperature rose to around 18 degrees as we progressed – a bit too hot for us both – so we took full advantage of the many water stations (even pouring water on our heads at one point!). Then it was on into the city where the fantastic atmosphere and brilliant crowds continued and kept us going right to the end.
We finished on Pall Mall where we met our husbands, Jim and Iain, who supported us throughout – navigating the Tubes and the London madness to cheer us on at several points along the route. A massive thank you to you both.
We both raised more than our target amounts for our chosen charities – Alzheimer’s Research UK and Natasha’s Allergy Research Foundation – and we’re so grateful to everyone who donated.
To top it all off, we both achieved personal records for the half marathon too!
