Introduction and map of Holderness wards

ABIGAIL BELL
LIBERAL DEMOCRATS

The Gazette offered all candidates the opportunity to provide a personal statement or profile of about 100 words plus a photograph. Unfortunately nothing has been received from this candidate at the time of going to press.
However, a statement from the Liberal Democrats group said: “The Liberal Democrats have been the principal opposition party on East Riding Council since 2019, and in 2022 achieved three stunning election victories in former Conservative heartlands such as Beverley Rural, North Ferriby and Swanland and Bridlington North. Genuine political change can happen on May 4, and every East Riding resident will have true community-focused Liberal Democrat candidates to vote for at the election.
“The Conservatives have taken the East Riding for granted for decades, and it doesn’t have to be this way any more.”

JOHN DENNIS
CONSERVATIVES

I have lived and worked in Hedon since 1967, while bringing up my family here. As
a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors for more than 50 years I have provided employment for many local people.
I was elected to East Riding Council in 2011, chairing various committees and, notably, holding the important title of Chairman of Review Panels. At one of these I secured £50 million of Yorkshire Water investment at Saltend Waterworks, thus eliminating the awful stench that had plagued our area for decades.
In 2016, I was elected council chairman – a great honour. I look forward to securing your vote and the next term of office representing South West Holderness residents’ interests.

SUE STEEL
CONSERVATIVES

It has been an honour to serve the ward over the past eight years and to make a difference to residents’ lives.
After 43 years in the NHS I take a keen interest in the provision of services locally. I supported residents in the early stages of Covid, including provision of a food bank, and led production of 2,000 sets of hospital-grade scrubs for local hospitals.
I have dealt with many resident issues and achieved progress with alleviating local traffic problems. I helped secure significant improvements to the Yorkshire Water treatment works and defended the ward from the proposed boundary change.
With your support I hope to continue to serve the residents of South West Holderness.

DAVID WINTER
CONSERVATIVES

I have served on East Riding Council for the past two years. Furthermore I have been a parish councillor for 27 years, which has included the past 20 years as the chairman.
My experience and knowledge has enabled me to understand and solve many important issues for residents in South West Holderness.
I have lived and worked in the Holderness area all of my life and with the considerable experience I have obtained gives me the necessary attributes to represent the public of South West Holderness in a totally fair and committed way.
