A book about the lifeboats of Withernsea has been updated by its author and reprinted.
Wooden Boats and Men of Steel, written by former lifeboatman Paul Baker, features stories and pictures of the town’s lifeboats from 1862 to 1913, as well as accounts of shipwrecks and heroic rescues made by countless lifeboatmen over the years.
This is a must-have book for anyone interested in lifeboats, the sea or the history of the town and Paul has drawn on many sources for the information contained in the 60-page book.
Five lifeboats were based in the town in the years covered by the book, launching 39 times and being credited with saving 88 lives.
Wooden Boats and Men of Steel is available at Precious Prints in Queen Street, priced £10.
