Withernsea Bikers deliver Easter happiness

The organisers of Saturday’s Easter egg run from Withernsea to Hull and back have hailed the event a great success in the county.

More than 350 motorcycles were involved in the trip, organised by Withernsea Bikers, to deliver Easter eggs to charities and children.

The fully marshalled convoy left from the Pier Towers at 10am for its 18-mile journey to East Park in Hull via Holderness villages where members donated the eggs to members of Downright Special, which supports children with Down syndrome – the group’s main charity, with the children’s wards at Hull Royal Infirmary and Scarborough Hospital also benefiting.

Other charities in the area also received donations of eggs.

After returning to Withernsea eggs were distributed to residential homes in the town and as there were many eggs left over organisers made sure that children on the promenade also received one.

Dozens of companies, shops and organisations sponsored and supported the Withernsea Bikers in their appeal, including supermarkets Heron, Tesco, the Co-op, Lidl, Asda and Sainsbury’s, and Hull Road Stores, the Alma, Propa Butchers, the Camerton, Sunk Island Garden Centre, MPH Accountancy, Polaris 3D Printing, DR Detailing and Valeting, Holderness Car Engineers, Crafty Shed, P&O Ferries, Chambers Joinery Services, Bloodfast, Trackers Café, Frontline IT Consultancy, Today’s, A&M Motorcycles, Hull Karting, the Pit Stop, the Shed, Tip to Toe, Clarendon Motorcycles, NCK Engineering, Springhead Motor Company, Spares Unlimited, Intogear, Funky Legs and MK Honda, plus many individuals and supporters.

Withernsea Bikers’ chairman, Chris Brawley, said: “We had a great day out. The run went perfectly without incident and we made a lot of people very happy. We would like to thank all our sponsors and supporters for their generosity, other road users for their consideration, our marshals and of course the bikers themselves.

“We’d also like to thank the marshals and the people who donated to put a smile on the kids’ faces. We’ve had some fantastic reviews and it was a fantastic day.”

The bikers also intend to donate baskets of fruit to residential homes in the near future, and they also plan to run an annual event as well as other possible events in the year.
