It was fun to visit Withernsea Golf Club last week for the Q&A session with Hull City stars Lewie Coyle and Jacob Greaves.
The event was impressively well-attended – especially by local youngsters, many of whom were wearing the black-and-amber. There’s no doubt that Withernsea is City through and through!
At the end, I respectfully waited for the huge queue of people getting photos and autographs to dwindle, before approaching Greaves with a photo (it was on my phone – stupidly, I’d forgotten to bring the original) of his dad, Mark, from the 1998-99 season.
Yes, I have a collection of signed photos from that less than auspicious period in the Tigers’ history, but it also includes the legend that is Gary Brabin, and Lovely Mikey Edwards, to whom I took somewhat of a shine back in the day.
I showed the picture to Greaves and told him that because I remember his dad playing at Boothferry Park, he makes me feel somewhat ancient, frankly.
My Gazette colleague Sally took a rather toe-curling picture of the actual moment that Greaves bent forward in what looks like genuine laughter, so I’m glad I brought him a bit of light relief after what had been quite an intense and extensive round of questions.
It’s great that the Hull City Official Supporters Club is bringing events like this to the community, and there are sure to be many more – so watch this space.
