A Burstwick photographer’s dream of building a mobile darkroom has now come to fruition, thanks to donations and fundraising.
Chris Smith has been running Enthusing Young Minds, a project where 10 to 17-year-olds take photographs using vintage cameras and then develop and print them with unusual natural, environmentally friendly chemicals.
His ambition was to take the project to the youngsters and now the caravan, converted into a fully equipped photographic darkroom, is now going out and about in the area.
The caravan project has received funding from many sources and is easily recognised by is multi-coloured paintwork with a film motif running down the side.
Chris is also in the process of building a camera obscura into the caravan which will allow even more creativity for the young photographers.
Its first run out took place last Saturday with a visit to Sunk Island and Stone Creek, and Monday saw it parked near the village hall in Burstwick for local youngsters to try their hands at photography.
