Town hit by power outage

More than 200 homes and businesses in Hornsea have been without power for more than nine hours.

Residents and businesses signed up to the Northern Power Grid’s alert system were updated regularly through the night via text message.

Repairs are taking longer than expected, a spokesman said.  “Due to the complexity of the work, we are unable to do this as quickly as we had hoped.”

Engineers on site early Tuesday, January 16, could not advise of the cause of the problem.

Northern Powergrid encourages people to report any power cut by telephone on 105 or by visiting its website northernpowergrid.com/powercuts.

Northern Powergrid released an update at 8.40am: “We now estimate restoration by 11am.”

Anyone requiring additional assistance, vulnerable or health related support should register for the Priority Service Register by calling 0800 011 3332.
