Nominations open for East Riding Council Chairman’s Awards

by Rebecca Hannant

Nominations for the annual East Riding Council Chairman’s Awards are now open.

The awards, which will be presented by council chairman John Whittle at an event in May, recognise people, businesses or organisations within the East Riding of Yorkshire who have gone above and beyond to serve the community and who have made a significant difference to enhancing their local community and the social wellbeing of the area.

Nominations are open to anyone, but nominees must have a distinctive connection or link with the East Riding. They must be based or have a base within the region and projects must operate on a non-commercial basis.

In total, there are four awards, each with two categories.

The built heritage award celebrates private homes, new-builds or business premises that have been sympathetically renovated and/or restored. The categories are split into a single new dwellings, conversions and minor works category, and commercial development and major schemes category.

The business award recognises businesses that have helped the economy flourish. For this award there will be two categories: businesses with 50 employees or fewer, and businesses with 51 employees or more.

The community award recognises groups and individuals who contribute to improving the lives of those in the East Riding with a non-commercial project. For this award there will be a group category and an individual category.

The sport award celebrates local talent and commitment to sports clubs and activities. The categories are Outstanding Team and Talented Performer.
