Town calendar celebrates ‘then and now’

by Ray Duffill

The official Hedon town calendar for 2024 has been published by Hedon Town Council.

The calendar is always eagerly sought out by residents and ex-pats from the town.

The 2024 calendar, titled Hedon – Then and Now, features 24 photographs – 12 from the archives showing views of the town from the past, and 12 smaller images showing a current look at the same scene.

January features a photograph of Hedon Station from the 1930s – maybe even the 1920s – with its platform full of travellers and a steam locomotive dispatching passengers. The current view shows that same, now crumbling, station platform.

Many of the archive photos once hung for many years in the Alison Hall in St Augustine’s Gate and were rescued several years ago when the hall closed.

The current photographs were taken by members of the town’s photography club, Hedon Viewfinders.

The cover and the month of October include stunning aerial photography with the originals being part of a Britain from the Air project taken by aircraft in the 1930s and the current photos taken by drone pilot Craig Marriott.

The calendars are available to buy for £3 from Hedon Town Hall which is open from 9am to 3pm Wednesday to Friday. The proceeds from sales are used to help fund community events.
