Tickets go on sale for major Blue Light Weekend gigs

by Sam Hawcroft

Tickets have gone on sale for two major music gigs raising money for this year’s Blue Light Weekend in Withernsea.

The weekend – one of the main highlights of the town’s annual events calendar – supports local emergency and lifesaving services and veterans’ charities.

The first concert at the Willows Holiday Park, on Friday, May 30, will feature the Beautiful Couch, one of the country’s leading tribute bands celebrating the music of the Housemartins and the Beautiful South.

Formed in 2002, their first-ever gig was at the Spread Eagle in Withernsea, and they have since built up a loyal following and a huge reputation in the tribute band world. The Willows gig will be their first time back in the town for two decades.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, July 5, Beatles Complete – one of the UK’s top Beatles bands – will take to the same stage. One of the resident bands at Liverpool’s iconic Cavern Club, Beatles Complete are returning to Withernsea by popular demand following their sell-out show at the Willows last summer.

Tickets for both gigs, priced £15, are available online now via bluelightweekend.com, as well as from Precious Prints in Queen Street.

People are urged to book early to avoid disappointment as both events are expected to sell out quickly.

Proceeds from these gigs will go towards the organisational costs of the 2025 Blue Light Weekend. Last year, fundraising during the event itself totalled £8,000, which was distributed among numerous local causes including Withernsea RNLI, Hornsea Inshore Rescue and Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Blue Light Weekend is also among the causes supported by Tesco’s Blue Token scheme. Shoppers at the Withernsea store are encouraged to collect blue tokens at the checkout and vote for Blue Light Weekend to boost funding for the event. Voting will commence from mid-January until the end of March.

Meanwhile, on Friday, January 31, Withernsea Boating Social Club is hosting the inaugural Blue Light Weekend Pub Olympics – a night packed with prize games, with entry to the first three costing just £1. The fun will include quizzes, Play Your Cards Right, Mascot Bingo, Mr and Mrs and much more.

Tickets for this can also be bought via bluelightweekend.com.

The third annual Blue Light Weekend, on August 2-3, will once again feature the hugely popular Colour Run, World Mascot Championship, sea exercises and air show, with much more to be announced in due course.
