An anti-crime initiative is adding its voice to a national campaign against violence towards women and girls (VAWG), with local organisations hoping to work together to raise awareness and help make the town safer.
Not In My Town, which was launched in Hornsea, is supporting White Ribbon November, part of a nationwide movement encouraging people – particularly men and boys – to challenge harmful attitudes and behaviours, speak out against abuse and promote respect and equality.
The campaign highlights the importance of education, awareness and community involvement.
Deputy mayor Cllr Nick Cox (below), who started NIMT in April, said the initiative was an opportunity for local people and organisations to come together and make a difference.

He said: “Violence against women and girls remains a significant issue that affects individuals, families and communities. Raising awareness, educating people and encouraging open conversations are important steps towards preventing abuse and supporting those affected.
“Hornsea Not In My Town is proud to support the White Ribbon campaign and its message that violence, abuse and intimidation have no place in our community.”
The group hopes to work alongside Hollis Women and the Women’s Institute over the coming months to promote positive messages, raise awareness and support initiatives aimed at making Hornsea a safer and more inclusive place.
The campaign is built around five key messages – challenging harmful attitudes and behaviours, speaking up against abuse, supporting survivors, building safer communities and showing respect.
Organisers hope the campaign will encourage conversations about behaviour, attitudes and the role everyone can play in preventing violence and intimidation.
Cllr Cox added: “By working together, we can help build a community where respect, safety and dignity are valued, and where violence against women and girls is never tolerated.”
The local campaign carries the message “Safer People, Stronger Communities, A Fairer Hornsea”, with residents encouraged to support the White Ribbon movement and help challenge attitudes that allow abuse to continue.
