Success for strongman Adam after gruelling series of challenges

By Rebecca Hannant

A Patrington man has won a Strongest Man award for the second year in a row.

On the weekend of June 22 and June 23, Adam Goundrill competed in the Hull Strongest Man and Woman Competition held at the Hull’s Strongest Gym in Rotterdam Road.

Over the course of the weekend challengers competed in one of five categories.

Saturday saw the novice men and women compete, meanwhile Sunday saw the intermediate women, under-105kg bodyweight men and women, and open weight.

As part of the 105kg challenge Adam took part in five gruelling events including the wrecking ball press, skip deadlift, farmer’s walk, sandbag to shoulder, and classic atlas stones.

Adam was later crowned the winner of the category, earning him a place in the UK under-105kg finals in September.

Adam said that although the sport was gaining in popularity with many events and competitions held across the UK, many people were unaware of the intense training involved.

He said: “I train four days a week, every week, for roughly two to three hours, splitting my sessions between upper body, lower body, and specific events training.

“I do all my training at Hull’s Strongest Gym. It has absolutely everything that’s needed to train strongman.”
