Storey’s funfair, which regularly visits Withernsea’s seafront, has donated an extra £1,000 towards the St Nicholas Church war memorial clock funds.
On Tuesday, July 16, TJ Storey of the funfair presented the money which will go towards to the restoration of the clock faces.
Darrin Stevens of Friends of St Nicholas Church said: “Last Easter the fair gave us an opportunity to raise money and it was very successful.
“Having discussed the 80th anniversary of the Second World War with Terry Storey, we found that they had a lot in common with Remembrance.
“When they offered £1,000 to help with the clock faces’ restoration, I grabbed the chance with both hands. I can’t thank them enough to help us reach our target of a full restoration before next year.”
The funfair’s TJ Storey added: “The clock is a symbol of Remembrance and deserves to be restored to its former glory to remember all those who served.
“My great-grandad served in the Second World War, fighting in Burma. He thankfully returned alive and lived a good life.
“When my granddad returned from the war, he ran a fair business which would operate in Withernsea in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
“We also wanted to give back to the local community. We operate a funfair in Withernsea two months out of the year. We want to show people that we don’t just turn up and take wealth out of the local community.”
