Firefighters tackle huge building blaze

Humberside Fire and Rescue have been tackling a large building fire at Patrington this morning.

The fire service said it received a call just after 9am and crews were quick to arrive on the scene near Station Road with the blaze already well-established.

The smoke plume could be seen for miles around, from as far away as Withernsea and Hedon.

A fire service spokesman said earlier: “We currently have five engines and specialist equipment in attendance. We have surrounded the fire to stop it from spreading and we’re working to get it under control.

“It’s an ongoing incident. We’re advising local residents and motorists to keep windows and doors shut. Because of wind direction, the smoke plume is going towards Ottringham and Keyingham.”

The A1033 through Patrington was closed for a time as fire appliances dealt with the blaze, but it has since reopened.
