A Withernsea businessman is launching a new initiative aimed at supporting the local business community.
Richard Hutchins, founder and CEO of the Leather Repair Company, says that Withernsea Business Voice (WBV) aims to bring together local shop owners and businesses to create a collective voice that advocates for the town’s growth and prosperity.
Richard said: “The WBV will serve as a central point for businesses in Withernsea to share their opinions, raise concerns and collaborate on initiatives.
“By working together, WBV can represent the interests of the town’s businesses to councils and organisations, ensuring their needs are heard and acted upon.
“From lobbying for funding and infrastructure improvements to increasing tourism, WBV is committed to enhancing Withernsea’s appeal and economic stability.”

The scheme will also introduce a Withernsea Discount Card, aimed at encouraging residents to shop local by offering exclusive discounts at participating independent businesses. By keeping more trade within Withernsea, the scheme aims to support local shops during slower months while fostering a sense of community pride.
Richard added: “This is about helping both businesses and the community. By shopping local, residents not only save money but also directly contribute to the success of Withernsea’s small businesses. It’s a win-win for everyone.”
The scheme also aims to introduce more year-round activities in Withernsea, with a focus on the winter months. This year, WBV is spearheading the creation of the Withernsea Winter Wonderland, an event featuring festive decorations, markets and family-friendly attractions.
Richard said that the Winter Wonderland promises to become a key highlight of the winter season, attracting visitors and boosting footfall for local businesses during the slower months.
Finally, businesses in the region are invited to join a WhatsApp group exclusively for local business owners, creating a “dynamic space” to share ideas, discuss challenges and collaborate on solutions for the town. This group aims to serve as a platform to drive positive change, enabling businesses to unite as one voice to shape Withernsea’s future.
Richard said: “Together, we can make Withernsea a better place to live, work and visit – not just in the summer, but all year round.”
