RNLI opens pop-shop at Pier Towers

By Terry Bearpark

RNLI fundraisers are hoping for a boost in sales over the next five weeks as they take over the Pier Towers to open a pop-up shop.

As well as selling souvenirs, RNLI merchandise and clothing, one side of the towers will feature a RNLI museum, with photographs and memorabilia featuring Withernsea lifeboat since 1974 and equipment used by crew members, as well as advice available on water safety.

With help from town mayor Ian Blackburn, ward councillor Lyn Healing and Tilly Tyson of East Riding Council, the fundraisers have obtained use of the towers free of charge.

The pop-up opened on Thursday, September 19, and will be open every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 3pm until Sunday, October 20.

Thursdays will see opening hours extended until 7pm to cater for those attending Bike Nights.

Also available will be Betty Pots, enabling members of the public to save five pence coins for the charity.

Running the operation will be retail staff Caz Gorman and Babs Wilson who have worked tirelessly this week to get the premises ready.

Plans are under way to open the pop-up shop earlier next year and volunteers to help man it will be most welcome.
