Pub fundraisers hand large donation to lifeboat

Last Thursday’s training night for Hornsea Inshore Rescue saw four visitors from Skirlington’s Towbar Inn presenting the charity with a cheque for £860.

Linda Rhodes of the Towbar Inn and three stalwart helpers, Michelle Blair, Sheila Jackson, and Marie Murphy, had raised the money from an Easter raffle.

The Towbar Inn is a long-term supporter of Hornsea’s independent lifeboat organisation and the crew have often enjoyed attending fundraising activities over the years.

Explaining why they raise funds for Hornsea Inshore Rescue, Linda said: “We do it because it is a wonderful local organisation, and we never know when we might need it. They have done loads of rescues in the Skirlington area and we have enjoyed having them as guests at our activities.

“We have another big fundraising event planned for them in the summer.”

Sue Hickson-Marsay, chairman of the organisation and station manager, expressed the charity’s gratitude for this and all the other donations made by the Towbar Inn.

She said: “It is such wonderful donations such as this which keeps the boat afloat and saving lives. Eight saved so far this year.”
