Platinum couple’s celebration helps local lifesavers

by Terry Bearpark

From the recent 70th wedding anniversary celebrations of a much-respected Withernsea couple, a very generous donation has been made to the local lifeboat station.

Michael and Daphne Spicer marked their platinum anniversary with a party for family and friends at the Northfield last month and instead of gifts they requested donations for the RNLI lifesavers.

Last Sunday morning they visited the lifeboat station to meet crew members and to hand over a cheque for £500, mainly from donations in lieu of presents and then topped up by the Spicers.

“We have always supported our local lifeboat and we decided that as we didn’t need any presents this would be a great way to help a local cause,” said Michael. “We would like to thank everyone for their great generosity and also for sharing our celebration.”
