A Hornsea photographer is to host a major exhibition at Burton Constable Hall starting next month.
From October 1 to December 8, Steve Morantz will return with a new display titled At the Edge which will showcase vivid, evocative snapshots of the changing sights, seas and sand of Hornsea and the surrounding East Yorkshire coast.
Following his previous exhibition in 2023 which was well received, Steve – a member of East Riding Artists – has been welcomed for a second season.
The show develops the themes from last year’s exhibition and expands on them. At the Edge refers to the shifting border of the land that comprises Yorkshire’s coast.
Hornsea’s relationship with the sea is the focus of the exhibition, being at the heart of the East Yorkshire section of the land-sea boundary.
The show also begins to discover the coast as it stretches up into North Yorkshire and south and west, along the Humber estuary; to the north – Flamborough to Scarborough and Robin Hood’s Bay, and to the south – Spurn Point and Sunk Island, onwards to the Humber Bridge.
Steve intends to continue this exploration, covering the whole of the Yorkshire coast with his blend of digital images based on photographs, in future exhibitions.
He said: “This is an exhibition of impressionistic images where I have let the colours and shapes found in the original photos emerge and dictate how the images are processed and printed.
“There is a deliberate intention to project the emotion that this special environment triggers. The prints capture this relentless exchange and are filled with light and motion.
“The dynamic relationship between the elements is portrayed across 75 photographic images, with a hint of further locations to come in depth in later exhibitions.”
