Museum’s new exhibition explores coast and country

by Ray Duffill

Coast to Country is the latest exhibition at the Hedon Museum this month.

A group of artists organised as Village Arts presents a mix of artwork in different mediums (acrylics, oil, pastel, watercolour and pencil). Most group members had been inspired to get involved through classes run by Janet Thackray, a professional artist living in the Holderness area who also has work on display.

Gwyneth, one of the volunteers on duty at the museum, explained that the group brought together people from across Holderness interested in enjoying their arts. She said one of the key things the group had impressed on her was the need to practise and develop a “habit” of doing artwork regularly. Creativity is like a muscle that needs exercise, and spending even a small amount of time regularly practising will lead to improvements, encouraging you to do more.

The exhibition features landscapes, seascapes, and wildlife. It also includes items for sale, with plenty to excite the art collector. Admission is free.

The exhibition is open at Hedon Museum on Saturdays and Wednesdays from 10am to 4pm and runs until Wednesday, April 25. Find the entrance to the museum on an open day via Watmough’s Arcade in Hedon town centre.
