Hornsea Inshore Rescue hails £1,000 donation from Blue Light Weekend

Withernsea’s Blue Light Weekend was set up with the aim of raising vital funds for local emergency and lifesaving services – and last month the organising committee began presenting organisations with last year’s proceeds.

Blue Light Weekend co-director Dave Penson visited Hornsea Inshore Rescue to present the charity with a cheque for £1,000, and more presentations will take place in the coming weeks.

Other charities and organisations that will benefit include RNLI Withernsea and the Royal Navy Raiders parachute team, who received donations towards their safety gear.

The Blue Light Weekend’s committee comprises a small and dedicated group working hard to bring the free event to Withernsea and raise money for “blue light” charities and lifesaving organisations.

They are: Andy Medcalf – digital, media/PR and event co-director; Dave Penson – Blip Active and event co-director; Kerri Dawson, compliance coordinator; Chris Morfitt, music coordinator, Ann Bell, maritime coordinator;

“Para” Dave Walker, aerial coordinator; and Kristina Richardson, sponsorship and first aid liaison.

Hornsea Inshore Rescue’s CEO and station manager, Sue Hickson-Marsay MBE, thanked Dave and the Blue Light Weekend for such a “wonderful” donation.

She added: “Our training boat Charity Spirit was invited to attend last year’s event as a safety boat.

“We were thrilled to be asked and had a wonderful time. Everybody was smiling and enjoying a super day.

“We are really looking forward to this year’s event.”
