‘Help us to create a healthy, happy town’

by Tim Nuttall

A networking event offering an opportunity for residents to help shape the future of physical activity in Withernsea is set to take place next month.

Active Withernsea is working alongside members of the community, local partners and a variety of organisations to establish a legacy network that will take over the promotion of healthy lifestyles when the pilot project concludes in 2025.

The Pace (Physical Activity and Community Engagement) network aims to continue the work of Active Withernsea by bringing the town’s residents together to take the lead on the future of physical activity and community engagement.

Its Next Steps event takes place on Wednesday, October 25, between 2pm and 5pm, at the Willows Holiday Park. It will offer an opportunity to explore the future of Pace and its continuing work to help create a happier, healthier and more active Withernsea.

Launched in July 2022, quarterly workshops held by Pace have since provided a regular platform for honest feedback and open dialogue with the community to help identify areas for improvement. Topics addressed so far include disabilities, long-term health conditions, communication, accessibility and inclusion.

Under the umbrella of Active Humber, one of 43 Active Partnerships across England that use the power of sport and physical activity to transform lives, Active Withernsea is among 12 local delivery pilot schemes in place to test innovative approaches that could unlock something ground-breaking for the benefit of the whole country. Its purpose is to find solutions that are genuinely replicable and sustainable to help increase activity levels and create healthier communities.

Funded by Sport England, with the aim of making active lifestyles the social norm for everyone, the Active Partnerships help people of all ages and backgrounds to improve their health and wellbeing by taking part in regular physical activity and sport.

A spokesperson for Pace said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for members of the community to connect with like-minded individuals, expand their network and be the voice of change as part of discussions to help shape the future of physical activity in Withernsea.

“It doesn’t matter if you have been to a previous event, or you are attending for the first time, this workshop is open to all and is the perfect time to get involved. So, let’s come together, build connections and pave the way for future success in creating a more active Withernsea.”
