Charity launches specs appeal

Hornsea Lions are calling for people to donate their old spectacles.

Hornsea District Lions Club has been collecting unwanted glasses in its shop for many years.

Once collected, they are sent for grading and distribution directly to contacts running eye clinics in places such as Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka, Ghana, Nigeria and Nepal.

In addition, volunteers from the Unite for Sight charity are supplied with spectacles to take with them on missions across the world.

Glasses (including children’s glasses) can be dropped off at the Hornsea Lions shop, in New Road, at any time.

It is also hoped that a collection point will be established soon in the local primary schools which will allow the children to make their own donations.

Thanks to the support of people in the local area, Hornsea Lions have been able to collect thousands of pairs.
