Charity helps lifesavers with new camera

By Terry Bearpark

When members of Withernsea Lifeboat crew put out a call for help with a replacement camera, a local charity was quick to respond.

Crew members use the waterproof rugged helmet camera to record rescues for operational purposes, training and publicity and when one of their cameras failed, they put out a request for help with a replacement on social media.

A member of the RAOB Tower Littlewood Lodge, based at the Pier Hotel in Withernsea, spotted the appeal and brought it to the attention of the lodge, which immediately jumped in with a donation of £500 towards a replacement camera and further cameras.

The RAOB has been a supporter of Withernsea Lifeboat for many years and was only to happy to assist the lifesavers.

Lifeboatman Darren Hickey, in his role of temporary lifeboat operations manager, along with deputy launch authority John Hartland and crew member James Medcalf visited the lodge last Sunday to thank the Buffs for their generosity and support and also brought members up to date with activities planned in the near future.
