CCTV released as search continues for missing Easington man, 89

Police have released CCTV footage as the search continues for 89-year-old Malcolm Curtis, who has been missing from Easington since Wednesday morning.

The footage shows Malcolm walking along Westfield Close at around 8.10am on Wednesday, June 4, before heading towards the junction of Hull Road and turning west at about 8.15am. He was reported missing at about 11.30am that day, prompting a widespread and ongoing search effort.

The footage can be viewed HERE.

Inspector Will Knapp, who is leading the search, said: “Over the course of the last three days we have been conducting extensive lines of inquiry to locate Malcolm since he left his home address in Easington and we are growing increasingly concerned for his welfare.

“We have been trawling hours of CCTV and doorbell footage, conducting house-to-house inquiries and area searches of rural locations to try and understand which direction Malcolm may have travelled in since leaving his home.

“Malcolm is described as being approximately 5ft 8in tall with grey hair and is thought to be wearing a grey gilet with brown trousers and carrying a walking stick.”

Inspector Knapp added: “From this point, with support from specialist trained search officers, scent dogs and the underwater search unit, alongside partnering agencies and Malcolm’s family and friends, teams have been extending their searches as we continue to conduct further lines of inquiries to understand Malcolm’s movements and try and trace his next steps.

“We are keen to speak to pedestrians and motorists travelling along Hull Road between 8am and 9.30am around the time Malcolm was last seen. I’d also encourage anyone who has any CCTV or dashcam footage around this time to please get in touch.

“We would also urge members of the public to check sheds, outbuildings and any covered areas – and if your neighbours are away, please check their gardens too.

“We would like to thank members of the public for their continued support and assistance in our search to locate missing Malcolm and would encourage anyone with information to please phone us directly.”

As part of the initial response, Withernsea RNLI was called out by HM Coastguard on Wednesday to assist with a shoreline and inshore search from Easington to Spurn Point. A crew of four launched within seven minutes and conducted several hours of searching before returning to station.

During Friday morning, the Coastguard helicopter could be seen flying low over the fields as the search continued.

Anyone who has seen Malcolm or has information that could help is urged to contact Humberside Police on 101, quoting log 177 of June 4.
