Budding actors and behind-the-scenes theatre crew needed for 2023 performances

Hornsea Amateur Theatre Society (HATS) is looking to the year ahead and inviting volunteers to join the group and take part in its next set of scheduled performances.

The group, which saw a dramatic decline in performances during the pandemic, is now looking to get back on its feet with a series of scheduled performances for 2023 – and there are plenty of opportunities to get involved.

The group performs at Hornsea Floral Hall throughout the year with local youngsters and adults taking to the stage.

Budding actors are now being invited to audition for roles and those looking to experience the technical and artistic side of theatre – for example, set design, costume or front-of-house – can volunteer their services behind the scenes.

Kirsty Leann Maiden of HATS said: “We don’t just need performers. It takes a lot of time, skill, and effort to put on a production so anyone who can help in any way will be more than welcome.

“The benefits of the club are having fun, meeting new people, exercise, making people laugh and keeping live theatre available and running in the local community. It also gives an opportunity for you to be part of something you enjoy and working with different age groups.”

HATS’ winter pantomime Humpty Dumpty will take place at Hornsea Floral Hall on Friday, January 20 at 7.30pm; Saturday, January 21, at 2pm and 7.30pm, and Sunday, January 22, at 2pm. The event will be suitable for all members of the family. Anyone wishing to perform must be over 15.

The next HATS children’s performance, Annie Jr, will run from Monday, February 13, to Saturday, February 18. A full week of rehearsals will take place during the half-term holiday with the production taking place at the end of the week. During the week of workshops and rehearsals the production team will produce, direct, choreograph and plan Annie Jr. Anyone wishing to join in must be in school year four (eight to nine years old), up to 18 years old.

The HATS annual summer pantomime is expected to be performed every Tuesday evening at 7.30pm throughout the six-week summer holiday in July and August 2023. Auditions and rehearsals will take place around March and April 2023.

Anyone is welcome to join HATS – performers or backstage crew – although please note some performances have a minimum age.

To get involved, please contact the group through its Facebook page or email [email protected].
