Booklet celebrates 25 years of town’s museum

A new publication on sale at Hedon Museum provides a fascinating insight into the eight years of campaigning and fundraising that led to its opening in 1996.

With a foreword from town mayor and museum president Sarah Rommell and an introduction to the museum’s early history by Dr Martin Craven, the booklet’s main purpose, however, is to feature the work done by those entering the 25th anniversary competitions last year. These included the schools writing competition (Hedon and Inmans primary schools), design competition (Holderness Academy) and the photographic competition (open to all).

A Celebration of 25 Years of Hedon Museum 1996-2021 describes itself as a “hotchpotch of Hedon (Museum) history”, which is fitting as it features many historical articles including one on Hedon’s silver mace, another on Inman’s Farm and its dog training school, reproductions of some of the museum’s publicity posters and adverts from Hedon’s lost businesses, and a piece on Havenside Mill.

The booklet is available to buy for £5 from the museum, whose 25th anniversary exhibition is open every Saturday and Wednesday, from 10am to 4pm, ending on Saturday, April 23.
