A fund set up in the memory of a young man who died of an undiagnosed heart condition is among the latest beneficiaries of this year’s Blue Light Weekend.
A donation of £1,000 from this summer’s event was presented to representatives of the Darren Uscroft Memorial Fund, which works with the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) to provide vital heart screening sessions for people aged between 14 and 35.
Darren, from Roos, died aged just 27 in 2015. In the years since, more than £20,000 has been raised to purchase defibrillators and support free heart screening sessions. Another free session is set to take place at the Meridian Centre in Withernsea on Wednesday, October 30.
Spokeswoman Kerri Dawson said: “On behalf of the Darren Uscroft Memorial Fund, I would like to thank the Blue Light team for thinking of us and donating £1,000 to our funds. As many will know, we fund professional heart screening by CRY and fund defibrillators locally in memory of Darren.
“There is a heart screening session on October 30, so this generous donation will boost our funds, which will drop by £6,500 after paying for this screening session.”
