Beer fans enjoy festival – and there’s more to come

Real ale fans headed to Hornsea at the weekend for the second annual beer festival at the Floral Hall.

The event, organised by Aitchesons Brick Shed Brewery on Saturday, August 10, featured more than 40 real ales and ciders as well as a programme of entertainment including the Hull Ukulele Group, Hornsea’s Shanty Lasses and the Redwood Band.

It was the first in Aitchesons series of “3 H’s” beer festivals, the second of which will be in Hedon on Saturday, August 24. The third is in Hessle next month.

However, Steve Aitcheson, of the brewery, warned that low ticket sales could force him to rethink next year’s event, and urged people to book in advance next time to avoid the risk of it being cancelled altogether.

He said: “Floral Hall is absolutely beautiful and so well run, but we only had around 50 per cent of the numbers we wanted. I think we just about covered our costs, but we will have to have a long think about next year.

“We were contemplating pulling the Hedon festival and put out an urgent post on Facebook.

“I have to say people have been great – Steven McHugh at the Hedon Hub has been a star. Ticket sales have really picked up, and we have now decided to go ahead.”

The Hedon Beer Festival will take place in the atmospheric setting of St Augustine’s Church, and entertainment will include seven- piece Motown/ska band the Elderberries.

The tickets are now all-day tickets, rather than two sessions, and admission is still £7, which includes three samples for the tasting sessions, a guide and festival cup.

To book, email [email protected], stating “Hedon” as the venue and the number of tickets required. Sponsorship opportunities are also available for businesses.
