Withernsea AFC Under-14s: Both teams were a pleasure to watch

The Seasiders took a trip to Hessle to play Hessle Colts under-14s.

Manager Mark had all players but Oscar on hand this week so felt they were in for a good match.

The game kicked off and started well; both teams were up for a challenge. The first half was fairly even with both teams putting on a strong display.

After a few minutes it was the Withernsea side who were put under pressure from the home team who had a good effort at goal but Withernsea keeper Jack was on hand to make a great save.

Again, another ball came Jack’s way but he made an easy save this time. The Seasiders were not deterred and carried on with some nice football and again things looked even between both sides.

The Hessle boys made a few good passes, and a lovely ball flew past Jack into the top of the goal with no chance of Jack reaching it. The score was 1-0 to Hessle.

As always, the Seasiders kept their heads up and battled hard as a team with some nice passing in midfield from Connor and Freddie.

Dean and Archie also were working very hard when they came on the field. Alex was causing problems to the home team and the back four of Sam, Zach, Henry and Joe kept Hessle at bay with their strong tackles and great vision of the game.

Blaike worked hard trying to move the ball forward and with Ashton’s strength and Rhys’s footwork it was looking hopeful that the ball would make its way for someone to score a goal or two. Half-time and still only one goal so far in Hessle’s favour.

The second half got under way and again it was very even and a great match to watch. Liam was in defence this time with a little shuffle about and was using his speed to his advantage. It wasn’t much longer when a lovely goal produced from Robbie evened out the score line to 1-1.

Within minutes the Hessle broke away towards the goal and put a second goal in the back of the net making it 2-1 to the home team. Jack was on hand again with another brilliant save.

All in all, it was an even game with both teams a pleasure to watch. The final score was 2-1 to Hessle.

Player of the match this week went to Jack for the fantastic saves he made this week. Well done.
