1,000 up for Abbie and Anna

The Lonely Goats headed to Goathland last weekend for the fifth race in the Hardmoors marathon series.

An early 8am start meant the air was still a bit chilly, but no rain was a massive bonus.

The race started at Goathland Village Hall and headed through the lovely Mallyan Spout before climbing up to Simon’s Howe and doing a massive loop round Hole of Horcum and Levisham. It was a tough climb back up to Simon’s Howe before dropping back into the beautiful Goathland.

The views along the way were fabulous. The route is usually pretty wet with plenty of bogs but due to the strong winds we’ve been having over the past week it dried most out nicely.

The Lonely Goats were joined by Barton runner Scarlett Kirkham who was completing her second Hardmoors marathon. Scarlett had a brilliant run, taking it all in her stide throughout.

It was another milestone weekend for Abbie Morgan who set out to complete her Hardmoors 1,000 miles – an ongoing journey since starting the Hardmoors races back in 2018. Every completed race gives you a number of Hardmoors miles to add to your running total. At the start of the Goathland marathon, Abbie was on 987, meaning 13 miles into the race she hit her 1,000 – but you have to finish the race for the miles to count.

Abbie had a brilliant run, joined by Alexia, Bradd, Scarlett and Sean. They stopped at 13 miles to have a picture to capture the milestone then continued on to the finish. Abbie finished on 1,014 miles. Now maybe on to 2000 miles. Who knows what the future brings?

Anna Jebson was also going out for her 1,000 mile milestone. She started her journey in May 2019, completing many Hardmoors marathons and Ultra marathons along the way. Anna started the marathon on 978 miles, celebrating her 1,000th 22 miles into the event. Anna had a brilliant strong run, finishing with 1,005 miles.

It was another fantastic day with so many friends marshalling at the start and out along the course. Thank you to each and every one of you who takes time out to volunteer at these events – without you they couldn’t happen. Huge thanks to Jon and Shirley Steele for another brilliantly organised event.
