Village welcomes new litter picker

A new resident of Roos has helped rid the village of a large amount of rubbish after being inspired to do a spot of litterpicking.

Caroline Hare, who has just moved to the area from Leicestershire, previously belonged to the South Leicestershire Wombles, a litterpicking group. After a visit to the Hornsea Eco Hub last week, she teamed up with Plastic Free Hornsea volunteer Jane Denton to go on a litter-pick in Roos.

Caroline said: “There was a lot of rubbish in the hedges and ditches, and on the streets, that I noticed. Bottles, plastic, glass, crisp packets… I only did a bit, but the more you do, the more you see to do.

“I can litter pick, get exercise, and clean up the environment. I do it anywhere I go, and as I now live in Roos, it is a good place to do it. I have my own litter picker, and rubbish bags – that’s all you need.”

The pair spent an hour and a half by the roadside, in Rectory Road, just outside the village, and gathered 14kg (four black bags) of rubbish. Afterwards the pair sought advice on the correct disposal of the waste.
