Village gears up for annual show

by Ray Duffill

Hosted for its seventh year in the grounds of the Nags Head in Preston, the Preston Family Show Day takes place on Saturday, August 5, from noon.

The show, sponsored by Beal Homes, will be officially opened on stage at 1.30pm by a presenter from the radio station Seaside FM.

There will be a range of show classes for all ages and talents, so whether it is fruit, vegetables or flower growing and arranging, cookery, homemade wine or gin, crafts or photography, there will be something to interest all the family. All classes are free to enter.

A series of trophies and certificates will be awarded to those exhibits judged the best. This includes the Jack Lowe trophy for fruit and vegetable entries, a trophy for best handicraft, and a best-in-show trophy. Photography trophies will be awarded to class winners including the Young Photographer of the Year Shield award for best photo from someone 16 years and younger. All exhibits must be entered by 10.45am on the morning of the show. Entry forms for the show can be picked up from the Nags Head and many local village shops.

As well as the exhibition of the show classes, other attractions on the day include live entertainment on the outdoor stage, free children’s activities and rides and a whole range of charity, craft and food stalls.

The Preston Family Show Day will once again be raising funds for various local charities and good causes. Admission is £1 and free for under-threes.
