Tractor run boost for charity

by Terry Bearpark

The annual England Hill Tractor Run that took place last May has boosted the amount raised by a South Holderness family for the Marie Curie charity to more than £15,500.

The popular run was organised by sisters Kathryn Townsley (now Ward) and Helen Smith, with valuable assistance from cousin Graham Conner and family, in memory of their father, David, who died in 2017, and saw some 50 tractors leave England Hill Farm, where he grew up, to travel around the area with a break at Withernsea before returning to the farm for a welcome hog roast.

David used to renovate old Ferguson tractors and enjoyed showing them off at rallies and taking part in tractor runs.

With a bucket collection en route, an auction and a raffle, this year’s total was £3,433, which was presented to Marie Curie community fundraiser Michelle Baggaley last weekend.

She thanked everyone involved in the run and said: “Community support like this is absolutely vital to our work. Every pound raised helps us provide comfort, dignity and peace to individuals and families facing life’s final chapter.”

The families are already planning next year’s event, which will take place on Sunday, May 3.
