Theatre group to recreate zany Mel Brooks classic

by Michelle Horst

Hornsea Amateur Theatre Society is once again set to delight theatregoers this May with its latest production at the Floral Hall.

For 2024, HATS has chosen the Mel Brooks comedy musical, Young Frankenstein.

The stage play is adapted from the 1974 film starring Gene Wilder, and the performance at Hornsea’s Floral Hall will feature the talents of Russell Fallon as the Monster, Amy Wood as Inga, Charlotte Royce as Frau Blucher, as well as Joe Porte, Bethany Peart and Jake Baines.

Filled with jokes, the story follows Fredrick, the grandson of Victor Frankenstein, who inherits the infamous Transylvanian estate. Igor, Inga and wife Elizabeth join Fredrick in this tale of zany chaos as he attempts to reanimate a corpse.

Songs will include Puttin’ on the Ritz, There is Nothing Like a Brain! and The Transylvania Mania.

New for this year, the society will make use of digital advances in set design by using a video wall as part of the show.

Performances are at 7.30pm from Thursday, May 16, to Saturday, May 18.

Tickets are £10 or £8 concessions and available online via ticketsource.co.uk/hornsea-amateur-theatre-society.
