A Withernsea dance group who reached the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent 10 years ago are to celebrate the anniversary by re-forming with a cohort of new members.
On Sunday, March 9, the Willows Bar in Withernsea will host auditions for members to take part in a new incarnation of the Ruby Reds, which will perform at events around the town in the coming months.
In 2015, 12 members of the burlesque troupe appeared on series nine of Britain’s Got Talent. After arriving on stage dressed as cleaning ladies and beginning a routine to Queen’s I Want to Break Free, judge Simon Cowell pressed his buzzer – but then the dancers stripped down to their underwear, much to the delight of the audience and the judging panel.
The Ruby Reds went on to receive four “yes” votes from the judges, progressing them to the semi-finals.
Group leader Lorraine Courtney, aka Ruby, said: “To celebrate the 10th anniversary since the Ruby Reds appeared in the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent, the group will be re-forming once again to perform the cheeky routine that warmed the hearts of millions back in 2015.”
Lorraine added that she was keen to bring new ideas to the group and was looking to use it to promote and raise money for various other community groups operating in the town.
A total of 10-14 female members are needed to join them for festival shows and charity events throughout the summer and beyond.
All applicants must be from Withernsea or surrounding villages. They must be fun-loving, willing to travel and available for the initial rehearsals. They can be of any shape and size and can be of any age over 18.
Dance experience is not necessary as training will be given, but Lorraine said it helped to be able to move well.
Alongside the auditions, which take place on Sunday, March 9, from 6pm to 8pm, dancers must commit to six rehearsal dates on March 15-16, March 22-23, and March 29-30 from 6pm to 8pm.
