Pub all set for rescheduled family fun day

by Ray Duffill

The rescheduled Preston Show is being held in the grounds of the Nags Head on Sproatley Road this weekend after it was postponed a couple of weeks ago due to adverse weather conditions.

With the main show sponsor being Beal Homes, the Preston Family Show Day takes place on Saturday, August 19, with the gates opening at noon. The show will be officially opened by Seaside FM on stage at 1.30pm.

Attractions on the day include live entertainment all afternoon on the outdoor stage, free children’s activities and rides and a whole range of charity, craft, and food stalls. The Preston Family Show Day will again raise funds for various local charities and good causes. Admission is £1 with under-threes being free.

In the traditional village-style show, there will be a range of show classes for all ages and talents, from fruit and vegetables to flower growing and arranging, cookery, homemade wine and gin, crafts or photography. All classes are free to enter. Trophies and certificates will be awarded to those exhibits judged the best. This includes the Jack Lowe trophy for fruit and vegetable entries, a trophy for best handicraft, and a best-in-show trophy.

Photography trophies will be awarded to class winners and also the Young Photographer of the Year Shield will be awarded for the best photo from someone aged 16 or under.

All exhibits must be entered by 10.45am on the morning of the show. Entry forms for the show can be picked up from the Nags Head and many local village shops.
