NorthCountry Homes has sought to clarify confusion surrounding its plans for a new development off Hull Road in Withernsea.
Earlier this week, a copy of an email from the Wakefield-based company was posted on Facebook, appearing to suggest the development next to the Carrs Meadow estate was no longer going ahead. It said: “Unfortunately, we will no longer be proceeding with the development in Withernsea but would like to thank you for your interest in NorthCountry Homes.”
This led some to speculate that significant archeological finds at the site had made the development unviable. However, when the Gazette contacted NorthCountry Homes, a spokesman said this was not the case: “The archaeology has not found anything of more than local interest and will not be a reason to prevent development of the site.”
The company later issued a further statement saying it had encountered “unforeseen” planning difficulties.
A spokesman said: “Following our previous communications in relation to building new homes in Withernsea and to give more clarity on the matter, we are currently navigating our way through some unforeseen planning difficulties and subsequent to this have been instructed to remove any signage from the site by the planning enforcement department.
“Once we are in receipt of the necessary planning decision notice, we will make further contact and update you with further news on this development.”
