Painting supports the Royal British Legion

A painting depicting a soldier in a field of poppies has raised £600 for the Withernsea branch of the Royal British Legion.

It was painted by RAOB Tower Littlewood Lodge member Mark Fox who wanted to do something to help the RBL and came up with the idea of the painting, At the Going Down of the Sun.

Members of the RAOB, the RBL and the Pier Hotel, where the RAOB meets, all sold raffle tickets for the unique piece of art, which was won by a member of the Legion.

At the weekly meeting of the RAOB last Sunday, Mark passed on the painting to RBL President Darren England, who thanked the RAOB for their donation and said how the funds would go a long way to help ex-servicemen in the area.

He also thanked members for previous donations aiding the valuable work done by the RBL.
