A 27-year-old man from Beverley has been charged after allegedly threatening staff with a knife during a robbery at a shop in Leven.
It happened on Sunday, October 5, just after midday at Budgens in West Street. It was reported that the man had entered the store to try to steal some bottles of wine. He managed to take a small bottle of whisky and a cigarette lighter before running off.
Before leaving, the man allegedly threatened staff with a knife. No one in the shop was hurt in the incident. Police officers attended and made an arrest on nearby High Stile in Leven.
Callum Shaw, 27, of Greenwood Gardens in Molescroft, has now been charged with robbery, possession of Class B drugs and two counts of assaulting an emergency worker. He appeared at Hull Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
Liam Johnson, 19, who works at Budgens, said: “It’s not something you’d expect in such a small village like this. It’s not common. Everyone knew about it straight away.
“It was nice to see everyone coming in and asking if we were OK, and checking if everything was all right. It shocked me straight away, because you’re not expecting anything like that.”
