Boxing Day in Withernsea usually sees dozens of brave people take to the cold North Sea as part of the traditional Boxing Day Dip.
It is organised by the Withernsea and District Lions Club, and participants take part to raise cash for the Lions, their own charities and organisations, or just for the fun of it.
To ensure the safety of the dippers members of Withernsea RNLI and Withernsea Coastguard are always on hand ready to help anyone who gets into trouble. Fortunately this has not been necessary for many years, but bathers are reassured that this assistance is there if needed.
To show their appreciation for this safety cover, the Lions presented cheques for £300 to the lifeboat station and the Coastguard Association, the charity side of HM Coastguard, at their last meeting.
The Lions would welcome new members to their group. For more information, contact secretary Ernie Oldfield on 01964 623138.
